Loughborough International Students Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Loughborough International Students Association (ISA) is an organisation supporting international students at Loughborough University. It is run by a committee of students elected by ISA members annually, and every international student automatically becomes a member. ISA provides the opportunity for overseas students to integrate and harmonise their culture with British society. It addresses any problems or issues that overseas students may have concerning their lifestyle and studies in Loughborough. The organisation encourages students to make international friends and explore cultural and geographical diversity.

The ISA provides the following to new international students:

  • Formal representation within the University
  • Promotes, advocates and advances their rights, interests and privileges in the United Kingdom
  • Programs to support and serve the needs of international students
  • Acts as an “umbrella” organization for the International and Multicultural Student Groups at the Loughborough University
  • Social activities such as parties, sports, clubbing and barbeques
  • Information on Loughborough and its surroundings (e.g., things to see and do in Loughborough)

The ISA annually organises International Day, a mini world exhibition, where students from different countries present their culture at their country stalls. It is the biggest event organised in the Union for international students. In the past many diplomats, the Mayor, senior members of the local community, University staff, and media (press, radio and TV) have attended the day.
