[edit] Synopsis

Although Marge agrees to take Lisa to the Springfield Museum, Marge learns she has to take Bart to a doctor instead, since he has glued various novelty items to his face. Since this is Lisa's last chance to see a certain exhibit, she phones Homer and asks him if she can take the bus, despite her young age. He unwisely agrees. Lisa takes the wrong bus and gets lost but, after a conversation with Carl and Lenny during his lunch break, Homer learns the error of his judgement. Homer leaves his work and went looking for her. He tries to advance his search by using a cherrypicker, but it starts moving and Lisa, who happens to be nearby, manages to save him.

With Homer and Lisa re-united, Homer tells Lisa that it is all right to take risks in life. Thus, the two decide to go to the museum after all, by illegally entering since it is now closed. While there, the two make a fascinating discovery that apparently had gone overlooked by scientists and museum staff, and Lisa concludes that what her father said about risks was right.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Khlav Kalash guy from "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" appears in this episode.
  • The Orb of Isis is shown inside a pyramid in "Simpsons Bible Stories".
  • When Homer and Lisa uncover the secret of the Orb of Isis the background in this frame is pitch black for over 10 seconds, but the exhibit background returns after they kneel down to see the Orb play music.

[edit] Cultural references

  • The X-ray specs supposedly can't see through lead, much like Superman.
  • The Springsonian museum is named very similarly to Smithsonian Museum.
  • The military base Area 51A is a reference to Area 51.

[edit] Quotes

  • Marge: "In a few years, when you're old enough to drive, then you can take a bus."
  • Homer: "Museum? ...I don't like the sound of that. What'd your mother say?"
Lisa: "Um, I wasn't 100% clear on that. She said something, but she was kind of in a rush to get Bart to the emergency room."
Homer: "Hmmm... So you wanna take the bus, huh?"
  • Homer: "I'm not normally a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me, Superman!"
  • Homer: "What do you say, honey? Feelin' stupid? I know I am!"
  • Lenny: "You sent your little girl downtown on a bus?"
    Carl: "Alone?"
Homer: "Maybe... but you don't know Lisa, I mean, she's so smart, they hooked her up to a big computer to try to teach her some things, but she had so much knowledge it overloaded and then it got really hot and caught on fire!"
Carl: "That never, uh, happened, did it Homer?"
  • Lisa (walks up to two Russians playing chess in Springfield's Russian district): Um, excuse me. I'm lost. Could you direct me to the museum?
Russian 1 (translated in subtitles, shouting angrily): My pleasure! The museum is six blocks that way!! (Lisa runs off) (calmly) She went the wrong way.
Russian 2 (makes his move): Checkmate.
Russian 1 (flips over chessboard): Good game!!! How 'bout another?!?
  • Homer (on work voicemail recording): You have reached the workplace of Homer Simpson. If you are calling about the waterbed, please leave a detailed message. If you need to...
Mr. Burns (on voicemail): Get back to work!
(Homer screams and the recording ends)
  • (Homer needs to get to high ground, finds a stall of balloons and buys them. He then turns to a man operating a cherry picker.)
Homer:These are for you if you let me use your cherry picker.
Man: Well, I already have some balloons...but they're not this nice.
  • Marge: "You'd better go apologize to your sister right now."
Bart: "Ah...but my apologies always seem so forced."
  • Military Sign:"You are here. We are not."
  • Homer: Agh!
Mr. Burns: Shouldn't you be at work right now?
Homer: Uh, yes, sir, Mr. Burns, sir...
Mr. Burns: Well, then get back to wherever it is you work, whoever you are.
  • (After Homer gets his head caught in a drawbridge)
Lisa: Don't you think you should go to the emergency room?
Homer: No, I'll just walk it off.
