Losfer Words is a progressive rock and new age music group. Losfer Words formed in 1987 and was founded by brothers, David and Matthew Flower. The music of "Losfer Words" consists of progressive-guitar instrumentals blended with elements of world music, new age music, Celtic music, and neo-classical music. Losfer Words has currently released multiple studio albums. Losfer Words CDs are styled as concept albums, drawing on a variety of sources of inspiration that range from the works of authors and poets, such as J.R.R. [edit] Phrase Origin

The expression Losfer Words (loss for words) refers to an instrumental piece of music for which the composer was unable to create lyrics to accompany the music.

The phrase, Losfer Words, was coined by Steve Harris of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden in the United Kingdom who have a song called "Losfer Words" , which appeared on their album Powerslave released in 1984. The name is currently used by David and Matthew Flower of the instrumental group Losfer Words in the USA who hold the federal trademark to the name in the USA, as well as the international trademark, under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.

[edit] Evolving Meaning

In recent years, Losfer Words, has become a slang expression for the style or genre of other instrumental musicians who cite one of the two afore-mentioned groups, Iron Maiden or Losfer Words, as an influence. The sound of this instrumental sub-genre blends a subtle Celtic music influence with progressive rock and unusual rhythms and time signatures.
