The Los Angeles City Auditor is the predecessor of the Los Angeles City Controller. In addition to serving as the accountant for the City of Los Angeles, in the early days the Auditor also worked as a secretary for the Los Angeles Common Council. The position was formed in 1878 and continued until replaced by the Controller position in 1925.
