Loreto Normanhurst is an independent Catholic day and boarding school for girls in Sydney, Australia with an enrolment of approximately 900 students from Year 7 to Year 12. The school is one of many around the world established by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or Loreto Sisters, founded some 400 years ago by Mary Ward. Loreto Normanhurst is a member of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools (AHIGS) and of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA).
Loreto Normanhurst was founded by Mother Gonzaga Barry in 1897. In its early years, it was called Loretto Hornsby. Originally, all students were boarders, as the school was established as a service to country parents of New South Wales, who sought a Catholic education for their daughters.
Its Sydney sister school is Loreto Kirribilli. There are five other Loreto schools across Australia: in Melbourne, Ballarat (VIC), Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.
