Zetta is a fictional character in Nippon Ichi's Makai Kingdom. He is the self-proclaimed "most badass freakin' Overlord in the cosmos". Though not too bright, Zetta makes up for his shortcoming with sheer power and attitude. He destroyed his world and body by destroying the Sacred Tome, the book that contains all of the information about his netherworld. The only way to save his life was to confine his soul to the book, so he could figure out a way to get his body and world back.

Zetta is tall and broad-shouldered, with long red hair. His hair burns like a fire with flaming bats flying out. When his hair is static, the wings of the bats show up all over it. He has a pale complexion, pointy ears, no pupils, and markings around his eyes. He wears an open chested blue shirt with a collar and two ornaments on his sleeves. He has a metal cross on his chest and another on his abdomen. His belt has a marking on the buckle and two chains with amulets attached to it. His pants and shoes are also blue with the same markings in his legs as on his arms. His blue cape is connected to his shirt with a view of space on the inside of it.

After becoming confined to the Sacred Tome, Zetta retains his face which is placed on the cover. The book turns red to match his hair. He has bat wing like protrusions like his hair coming from the side. Under his face, he has a gold ring with the same view of space that his cape had. Both of the metal crosses can be seen on his binding He still retains the properties of the book such as having pages and being able to be opened. In this form, he falls victim to many book puns.

Zetta is very ruthless, and doesn't care about anyone but himself. He is blinded by his power, unable to see the people that care for him. He rarely displays emotions besides anger or pride. He is easily angered and quickly expresses it without thinking. He is oblivious to the things around him such as plots of his fellow overlords.

In his original form, he is the most powerful overlord in his universe by having the most mana of any of the overlords. He is very strong and fights with a sword. His body is still powerful enough to act on its own after he takes it back from Baal. He has the ability to travel through time as shown when he went back to fight Babylon in his prime.

As a book, he has all of his power, but he is unable to fight. His only attack is his "Zetta Beam" which involves him shooting lasers from his eyes. The only other things he can do are float around and summon his minions. He retains the abilities of the Sacred Tome which allow people to write wishes in him with a cost of mana. If he disagrees with the wish, it won't happen.

Before the events of the games, Zetta was a powerful overlord with the desire to become the strongest in the universe. His apprentice Salome, who was said to have the potential to be stronger than Zetta, deeply loved him. He ignored her feelings and just desired for power. She decided to give up on her wish of love and tried to make his come true by slowly giving him her mana day by day. She left to become an overlord, making her a traitor in Zetta's eyes.

Pram the Oracle suddenly appeared and started to tell the future. Unknown to Zetta, she was just reading out of the Sacred Tome. She decided that Zetta was a pathetic toy for her to play with. She rewrote the Sacred tome to get him to destroy it and his world.

Makai Kingdom starts out with Zetta trying to keep his world from being destroyed by using the Sacred Tome. Though as Pram intended, by writing, "Lord Zetta is stupid. His foolishness has doomed the Netherworld to extinction", he lost his temper and destroyed the Tome. This caused his world to be destroyed. The only way to save his life was to confine his soul to the Sacred Tome.

Stranded and alone, he called for help from the other overlords. Pram and Valvoga showed up to his plea for help. Pram reveals that if he recreates his world, he'll regain his body. They helped him to regain part of his world through the wishing power of the Sacred Tome. Unable to fight, Zetta created minions to fight for him, so he could regain his world. After regaining part of his world, Babylon shows up to also help him out. While traveling through the next netherworld, Zetta is confronted by his rival, Alex. Alex insults him and leaves. After that world is obtained, Zetta wakes up to find a Mysterious girl named Trenia having a fire on him. Seedle also shows up to insult and help him.

After seeing Babylon, Zetta decides to go back in time to see how strong he was in the past. Zetta fights him and takes a lot of his power to take a clone of him though Zetta doesn't realize it. This caused Babylon to think he was "The One". After a long time, Babylon only remembered a little bit of his appearance.

After clearing out the next netherwold, he finds a note left by Pram while she was disguised as Alex with the same writing as in the Tome. This leads him to believe that Alex might be the one that rewrote the Tome. After King Drake shows up with the intention to use the sacred tome, Zetta runs into Alex again who revels to Zetta that he isn't the one that rewrote the tome. Zetta takes his word which leaves Zetta even more confused.

Salome shows up in hope helping Zetta and having him admit his love for her. Salome's sickness causes Zetta become worried about her, but he just shakes it off as him being weak. Drake tries to steal Zetta's netherworld by wishing it in the Tome, but it didn't come true because Zetta doesn't want it to happen. Trenia shows up and exhibits a large amount of knowledge about the Tome. Alexander also shows up to help after being told the situation by Trenia though he ends up trying to fight him until a tremor is felt and he leaves.

Tremors start to be felt more frequently. Babylon explains that he thinks it's "The One", a universal arbitrator. He's supposedly the one that stole his power long ago. Zetta isn't scared by this threat and continues into the next netherworld. After Zetta deals with some corn beings and develops a hate for them, Trenia shows up with her new friend, an old looking corn. Zetta shoots him with his Zetta beam out of hate. Everyone then is lead to believe that the corn is "The One" after he curses Zetta. He then believes he has only three days left to live. Salome decides that she wants to fulfill her wish before Zetta dies.

Zetta then confronts and defeats Laharl, Etna and Flonne. They thought he was Baal, the strongest overlord of legend, and tried to kill him. He took them as his vassals after the offered. He then confronts and fights his own body. After defeating himself, it turns out his body was possessed by Baal. He then takes back his body with no way to return to it. He then hunts down Baal, who had possessed the body of a Prinny and obtained the massive battleship Yoshitsuna. He decides to fight Baal, so he can finally be the strongest overlord. Baal is defeated and escapes and Zetta declares himself the "the undisputed, baddest-ass freakin' Overlord in the whole damn Cosmos.

Alex appears to fight Zetta in the hope of killing him in battle before the curse can. Before they can really fight, Salome show up and defeats him. After the battle she becomes sick and asks Zetta to marry her. He refuses and tells her to go die. She soon reappears having sent all of the other overlords away. She crashes her netherworld into Zetta's and calls it the place they're getting married and dieing at. She says the only way to stop her is to kill her or Zetta's world will be destroyed.

Zetta proceeds into his netherworld to stop Salome. He runs into Seedle who explains that he wants to kill Salome because she's the one who killed him. Alex shows up and stalls him while Zetta finds Salome. She says her wish is for them to die together. Zetta refuses, so she tells him to fight. After the battle, she reveals that her true wish was to die in Zetta's arms. She asks Zetta to tell her she loves him, but he refuses. She dies and Zetta feels a ton of mana rush into him. He compares it to the time when he became the strongest overlord.

Zetta rushes to Pram desperately trying to figure out how to bring Salome back to life. He uses the excuse that he needs to tell her something. Pram feels remorse for what she did and decides to make the wish. Pram uses her true power to make the wish, but Seedle attacks her before it can finish. He reveals to Zetta that Salome was the one that gave him his power. Alex shows up and holds Seedle off for a second time. Zetta becomes angry at the fact that his power is from Salome, so decides that he's going to give her a stern talk when he brings her back to life. Trenia shows up and reveals that she is the spirit of the sacred tome that was expelled when Zetta entered it.

She didn't like his attitude at first, so she had kept it a secret. Afterwards, she realized that Zetta wasn't that bad, so she decided to give him his body back. He then wishes to revive Salome. They live together after realizing that "The One" that cursed him was a fake.

There are other alternate endings in the game such as Pram feeling that Zetta needs to die for what he did. If she wins, she kills him and rules the universe and if he wins Pram dies and he kills Trenia without realizing who she is leaving him to disappear into solitude. In another, Salome dies in the battle with Alex which leads to Alex and Zetta having their final battle. If Alex wins, he kills Zetta and wonders the universe depressed because there is no one stronger than Zetta in the universe. If Zetta wins, he kills Alex and takes Salome's body and is never seen again. In another, he travels back in time to see how strong Salome really was. He defeats her and loses all of his power because she was never able to give it to him in the first place.

If he loses to Laharl, he is killed because Laharl mistakes him as Baal. If he loses to Baal in either form, Baal kills him and rules the universe. If Laharl is the one of the people that fights Baal in Zetta's body, he destroys Zetta's body to kill Baal.

Zetta makes a cameo in Disgaea 2 as a secret boss fight. He appears in the form of the Sacred Tome rather than his normal body. He is unable to move, and sports his "Zetta Beam" technique along with a new attack called Badass Overdrive.

[edit] Salome

Salome was a human that gave up her soul and became Zetta's apprentice. She fell deeply in love with him, but his desire for power made him unable to realize it. Eventually she got fed up with trying to be with him and decided to just make him happy by slowly giving him her mana day by day, which eventually lead to him becoming the strongest overlord with the most mana. After she left Zetta and became an overlord, she started to become sick and got worse day by day from the loss of mana. Before she was going to die, she became determined to make him reveal his true feelings to her. When she thought Zetta was cursed by "The One" and had three days left to live, she decided that she wanted to die in his arms before he did.

Zetta uses Pram as his personal oracle even though she was just using the tome to tell the future. Referring to him as her toy and play thing, she eventually decided to play with Zetta by causing him to destroy his own world. She disguised herself as Alex to confuse him even more. By the end of the game, she realizes what she did was wrong and decides to make up for it by using her power to try to revive Solome, but ends up failing. In an alternate ending, she kills him when she realizes that he doesn't deserve his power.

Alexander, or Asshat as Zetta likes to refer to him, is Zetta's rival, although Zetta doesn't feel the same way and just passes him off as some brat. Alexander constantly tries to defeat Zetta, so he can be the strongest overlord in the universe. He's sent 20,846 assassins after Zetta and gone to war with him 6,413 times with no luck. Though he acts like he hates Zetta, he truly sees him as a friend and rival, and is ready to help him out when he's in trouble. He even cries when he believes Zetta is going to die. As seen in the ending where he kills Zetta, he finds he has no meaning without Zetta to be his enemy.

He respects Babylon as he was one of the strongest overlords in the past, but views him as a senile old man. He has little respect for Valvoga and King Drake as he views them as weaklings. He greatly dislikes Seedle and his attitude.
