Lonny Baxter

Lonny Leroy Baxter (born January 27, 1979 in Silver Spring, Maryland) is a professional basketball player currently playing in Italy with Montepaschi Siena.

While attending the University of Maryland, College Park, he won the 2002 NCAA Championship along with teammates and future NBA players Juan Dixon, Steve Blake and Chris Wilcox by defeating Indiana. He was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 15th pick of the second round (43rd overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft.

On February 9, 2006, Baxter was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Charlotte Bobcats for Keith Bogans.

On August 8, 2006, Baxter signed to Italian League team Montepaschi Siena.

On August 16, 2006, at approximately 2:30am, Baxter was arrested by Secret Service agents for allegedly firing a gun two blocks from the White House. Federal charges against Baxter included carrying a handgun without a license and other firearms charges. "There were spent shell casings in plain view inside the vehicle," said Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren.[1] Although Baxter agreed to plead guilty, he was nonetheless sentenced to two months in prison on August 24. The reason why the judge rejected the prosecutor's recommendation for probation was that he had been arrested a couple of years earlier after he accidentally fired a shotgun in his condominium and was placed on probation and was told to stay out of trouble after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor firearms charge in that case.
