Longstone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Longstone is a suburb of Edinburgh in Scotland. It borders Saughton, Wester Hailes and Slateford.

Longstone's most dramatic features are the Union Canal aquaduct and the adjacent railway viaduct. Underneath these runs the Water of Leith river, and the canal may sometimes be seen pouring out through an overflow down into the river. The Water of Leith's visitor centre lies almost underneath the aquaduct here.

The Cross Keys is a long-established pub in the area, which also contains one of the city's main bus depots, belonging to Lothian Buses. There are also a small number of shops and a car dealership, in addition to a Jehova's Witnesses "Kingdom Hall".

Housing is a mixture of terraces and flats, many being council-built.
