Long Ranger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Long Ranger is a character class in the multiplayer aspect of the Xbox video game Conker: Live & Reloaded. Long Rangers are snipers with limited health but good speed. They are intended for protecting allies from range or taking out key enemies however they may be used to defend a choke point from a range that leaves the enemies useless. While undeniably deadly at range, Long Rangers are very vulnerable in close quarters, especially versus Sneekers and Thermophiles. They are generaly regarded as the most difficult sniper in any shooting game.
[edit] Equipment/Abilities
- Widowmaker - The Widowmaker is a single shot sniper rifle with 2 modes of fire: 7.62mm for infantry or DU Tipped (Depleted Uranium) for antivehicular combat, though it is also more damaging to barricades and turrets. While the 7.62mm round is more damaging to infantry, both types of ammunition can be used for (lethal) headshots. The Widowmaker does not have magazines, rather it is reloaded after each shot. The Widowmaker can only be fired while zoomed in, and if the trigger is held, a laser dot is shone on the centre of the reticule, and the damage done by the shot is charged up, up to 3x the damage of a single shot and enough to kill an enemy with 1 bullet, without achieving a headshot. However the laser dot can also betray the Long Ranger's position to the enemy, and a target who notices the dot will generally run for cover to avoid it (and thus cause the shot to miss). You can fire the Widowmaker in three different stances: standing, crouching, and prone position, standing is the most unsturdy, unsafe position, crouching being a median, and prone the safest, sturdiest, yet most inflexible position. There are two levels of zoom for the scope, and when upgraded a third is available.
- Krotch .45 - A close range revolver available once upgraded, the Long Ranger holds one in each hand for a total of 20 bullets (10 in each gun) before a reload is necessary. The Krotch .45 is single shot, meaning the rate of fire is quite slow, adding to the relatively low power of the weapon means that they are usually only used if the Long Ranger is cornered at close range.
- Grenades - Long Rangers are equipped with Stun grenades to temporarily stun your enemy, Magnova (EMP) grenades to immobilize vehicles and when upgraded a fragmentation grenade is available.
- Med-Gun - A "gun" to heal allies, simply stand near an ally and "fire" to heal them. Complete healing takes about 3 seconds, however it leaves both players open to fire.
- Self-Heal - Once upgraded you can activate this ability to heal yourself, your health slowly returns after activation but it requires time to "recharge" before it can be used again.
- Infravision - Allows you to see through any number of walls, identifying enemies with red hexagons and allies with green. Limited battery means it must recharge after a short period of use.
[edit] Vehicles/Specialist Ordinance
- R-Hog - An extremely fast ATV with no weaponry or armour, but it is possible to run down enemies. Intended solely for transport, the R-Hog is a risky form of moving due to its lack of protection and poor handling.
- Earth Guard - An automatic turret armed with a machine gun that targets ground troops and vehicles. The Earth Guard is very effective against individuals but struggles with multiple targets. It can be disabled temporarily with an EMP grenade or destroyed with fire.
- Sky Guard - An automatic missile turret that targets enemies in the air. It can be temporarily deactivated with an EMP grenade or destroyed if enough damage is dealt.
- Mines - Available once upgraded, 3 mines are available and once deployed they are not triggered by allies and are invisible to enemies. Mines are very effective for stopping vehicles rather than infantry because vehicles cover a larger area and usually cannot avoid a mine. EMP grenades will cause mines to detonate spontaneously however.
