From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Long Island City High School is a public high school in New York City, located in Long Island City in the borough of Queens. Built in 1995, it has an enrollment of 4,029, which is nearly 79% above the school's maximum capacity. Overcrowding has caused some classes, e.g. English and math, to be held in a computer lab. This can be very inconvenient for both the teacher and the students.
The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the New York City Department of Education.
The school also has excellent courses in music and culinary arts. The High School also includes an Army JROTC Program.
The Army Junior Reserve Officers' Trainning Corps. is also 2004 Drill Team Champions in Nationals Competition held in Florida each year & 2005 Unarmed Drill Team Champions in Nationals.
Every student receives an independent schedule. Upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) usually start their school day at 7:00 A.M. and finish by 2:00 P.M. Freshmen and sophomores start around either 9 or 10 A.M. and finish at 5:30 P.M., going home after dark during the winter months.
