Lonely Hearts is a 2007 American film directed and written by Todd Robinson. It is based on the true story of Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez, the notorious "Lonely Hearts Killers" of the 1940s.
Beck (played by Salma Hayek), an overweight nurse, and Fernandez (Jared Leto), a con man, travelled the country and murdered at least 12 women who responded to their personal ads. Lonely Hearts follows two homicide detectives (John Travolta and James Gandolfini) as they try to bring the couple to justice. The film was shot mostly on location in Jacksonville in 2005.
The story of Beck and Fernandez was also the subject of 1970's The Honeymoon Killers, directed by Leonard Kastle.
