Lone Tree is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. It part of the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,151 at the 2000 census.

Lone Tree is located at 41°29′9″N, 91°25′36″W (41.485871, -91.426692)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.

Lone Tree is located alongside Iowa Highway 22 in southeastern Johnson County in a Quad County area, with Louisa County being just to the southeast of town, Muscatine County just to the east, and Washington County just to the west and southwest of Lone Tree. The Lone Tree Water Tower can be seen on a clear day from all four counties, provided there are no obstructions (trees, houses, buildings) blocking your view.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,151 people, 459 households, and 323 families residing in the city. The population density was 448.9/km² (1,165.3/mi²). There were 489 housing units at an average density of 190.7/km² (495.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.96% White, 0.17% African American, 0.09% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.52% of the population.

There were 459 households out of which 41.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $42,431, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,227 versus $25,815 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,990. About 4.5% of families and 7.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.9% of those under age 18 and 14.1% of those age 65 or over.
