London Buses route T31 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to First London.

The service is a Tramlink feeder route, connecting at Addington Village Interchange tram stop and bus station. Tfl liked the idea of having feeder routes for the tram, as at the time it was in the direction the Mayor of London was thinking in, more London buses. Even if some are a bit pointless! Along with more buses there was an aim for better frequency (especially in South East London where the average frequency is just around 12 minutes). So this new trend of feeder buses started with this route T31 followed by the T32 and the T33.

The T31 being only 2 miles long was a cheap investment for whoever would get awarded the bus route (because of the un-needed amount of busses being less than 10), who along with the T32 turned out to be First London. First would also go on to buy the tramlink in 2005 (NOTE:First also tried and failed to buy the Sheffield Supertram in Sheffield, which was awarded to Stagecoach instead, even though First was the main provider of buses in Sheffield and stagecoach had no operations there at the time!). The frequency for this bus route (every 7 minutes) was a surprise as it was one of the best in South East London, going on a bus route which had a pointless line of turns. This could of gone a longer route which would make more sense, now filled in by the 130.

First London has recently lost the contract to both the T31 and T32 feeder routes to Arriva London, who will be beginning operations in May 2007 (NOTE:First never had the contract to the third feeder route T33, which was awarded to Metrobus). If that wasn't enough losses for the Orpington garage, first lost another route held there, the 273.

[edit] History

As already said the route is a tramlink feeder, and started operations in late 2000 after the tramlink started itself. The bus has never changed it's route in it's short lifetime
