Category talk:Long-distance runners

I've added a TOC, but it might be a good idea to split this into two categories - male long-distance runners and, obviously, female LDRs. Harry R 14:06, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
OK, I've just discovered that categories are generally gender-neutral as a Wikipedia policy. There's an argument that for runners a gender split is more natural than for i.e. actors or biologists, though, since they compete in gender-separated events. Another approach, if anyone feels it necessary to split this category, would be to have separate categories for the various events. The obvious problem there is the amount of overlap; many runners will have raced in half a dozen different events at some time in their career. Perhaps it's not necessary to split the category anyway.Harry R 14:19, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm obviously reinventing the wheel here. It now seems to be acceptable for people to be in several overlapping categories - i.e. LDRs, 10000m runners, Ethiopian athletes. I always thought the idea of categories being exculsive was silly, and now categories have TOCS, it's even sillier. So if anyone wants to add event subcategories, they can! Enough. I'm going to stop talking to myself now. Harry R 14:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
