Lommedalen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lommedalen is a picturesque, rural community in a small valley in Bærum, in the county of Akershus, Norway. The population is about 3000 people. Its name is derived from the river Lomma, which after fusing with Isielva forms Sandvikselva.
Lommedalen includes wooded areas, some agricultural land, and residential zones. The river Lomma runs through the valley. The tiny lake Burudvannet, which is a bathing place, is also located in the area. A forest road from Lommedalen goes to Hole in Buskerud. The pilgrim road to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim passed through Lommedalen in medieval times and was recently resurrected in celebration of the 1000-year jubilaeum of Trondheim in 1997.
Its neighbouring village, Bærums Verk, was once the place of the first Norwegian iron foundry, providing cannon balls to the King.
