[edit] Political Views

Lois Herr has served for six years on the Lancaster County Planning Commission and is the co-chair of the Growth Management team in Lancaster County. She aims to organize investment in urban areas to alleviate growth pressure on agricultural space. Herr advocates 'Buy Local' efforts to promote sustainability in local agriculture, supports better investment in the monitoring of and technology for clean water resources, and also aims to increase investment in cleaner energy and public transportation.

Herr is concerned that the United States is going to fall behind in scientific development, citing increases in defense research but decreases in expenditures on pure scientific research in other fields. She advocates providing affordable health insurance for every American, citing the need to reform a costly but inefficient health care system. Herr advocates fiscally responsible policies, opposing things such as Halliburton's no-bid contracts in Iraq and government handouts to oil companies.

On abortion, Herr's website states: "The government, along with the community and families, should be working to reduce unwanted pregnancies to as close to zero as possible. But it should not criminalize private medical decisions made by women and their doctors regarding reproduction." [2]
