Lobuche

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lobuche (also spelt Lobuje) is a Nepalese mountain which lies close to Khumbu Glacier. There are two main peaks, Lobuche East and Lobuche West. At 6415 m, Lobuche West is the higher by some 26 metres. Between the two peaks is a ridge, although there is a deep notch in this and the two peaks stand some distance apart.

The false summits east of the notch have been attained by numerous climbers but the first recorded ascent of the true Lobuje East seems to have been made by Laurence Nielson and Sherpa Ang Gyalzen on April 25, 1984. It is likely that others may have reached the true summit before this date but no records exists.
