Lob wedge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Lob Wedge is a high lofted golf club with a loft of between 58 and 68 degrees, and is the most lofted club in a golfer's bag. The Lob Wedge can be used from the fairway, the rough, or from bunkers; whenever the player needs to hit the ball high and or stop the ball quickly on the green. It can also be used when the player is on the green and is difficult to putt the ball in.

The amount of bounce on a club usually dictates its primary use. Lob wedges with low bounce can be used on firmer lies, whereas those with a high bounce are often used from the rough, or the sand.

According to the Darrell Survey Company, the top three brands of lob wedges used on the PGA Tour during the 2004 season were

  1. Titleist,
  2. Cleveland, and
  3. Ping.
