[edit] Biography

Even though Liz loved to sing as a child, she never imagined that it would become her career. Liz wanted to study law after secondary school, but her music teacher was impressed by her singing abilities and arranged her to take part in an audition by Andy McCluskey, who wanted to set up a girl band. In 1997 Liz became one of the original members of Atomic Kitten and she co-wrote many of the songs during her time in the girl group. Liz is the only original member of Atomic Kitten due to the other two leaving; Heidi Range was replaced by Natasha Hamilton by 1998, and Kerry Katona was replaced by Jenny Frost in 2001.

Liz was engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Tommy Hibbs until 2002. She is currently dating Lee Trundle who plays for Swansea City football club. In August 2003 Liz did a report for the BBC about pensioners being moved out of their retirement homes. [1] In 2005, she appeared in the ITV reality TV show, Celebrity Love Island, and performed some modelling assignments. She supports Everton FC and has modelled the clubs uniforms in the past.

On February 13, 2006 Liz released her first solo single, a cover of Barbra Streisand's 1980 hit "Woman In Love". The track has been produced by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees who also wrote the original version [2] and whom Liz accompanied on his 2005 tour. [3] A video has been shot and released and features Liz in a Manhattan apartment, but it is actually filmed in Lil's home town of Liverpool. It was decided to release the single as a double A-side with Jackie Wilson's "I Get the Sweetest Feeling".

The single peaked at number 5 in the UK Singles Chart and at number 33 in World Singles Official Top 100 chart. [4] and after more than half a year after release it peaked at #16 in the Spanish charts on October 22, 2006. [5] On February 25, 2005 Liz appeared at Belfast's biggest gay venue, "The Kremlin", performing both of her solo tracks and two Atomic Kitten classics ("Whole Again" and "The Tide Is High").

Her solo album is scheduled for release in 2007 [6] and was first performed at the Denby Dale Festival on August 13, 2006. Her next single "Happy" is due for release in 2006, however no exact date is known. [7]

Liz McClarnon will perform in Thank You for the Music, an 90 minute ABBA documentary for ITV, directed by Martin Koch, who previously directed the musical Mamma Mia! [8] The documentary will include a remake of the mini musical The Girl with the Golden Hair which ABBA performed during their 1977 world tour and which was featured on The Album. The musical will be performed at the Prince of Wales Theatre and feature Liz McClarnon, Richard O'Brien and the Dynamos. [9]
