[edit] The Who

Are they playing? Its not on the official website.--Richy 30 June 2005 19:47 (UTC)

According to a BBC article, and the associated print out, The Who are playing.

AGH!!! SCREW YOU FOR NOT PLAYING BABA O'RILEY

Haha! I thought the same thing! — Trilobite (Talk) 3 July 2005 00:51 (UTC)

[edit] Led Zeppelin

Is this true? if it is, it would be the greatest event in music ever.--Richy 30 June 2005 21:24 (UTC)

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be true. Both the BBC and Live 8 official website don't mention them. --62.252.32.12 1 July 2005 17:27 (UTC)

It's a bit tricky, cuz tbe lists only seem to include bands that are appearing at the venue in person. Like Celine Dion is 99.9% confirmed to be performing via satellite from Las Vegas for the Canadian show, but she's not listed on their setlist. --Madchester July 2, 2005 14:40 (UTC)

Pink Floyd Rocks!!!!!

[edit] The Line-up

Was it only me that was trying to be the first to get the song names up? It looks like there was a three-way tie for "The Long and Winding Road"... ----James Kemp 2 July 2005 22:58 (UTC)

And then McCartney drops "Hey Jude" into the mix. And there was me thinking I'd had the last word :) --James Kemp 2 July 2005 22:58 (UTC)

Heh. I got most of Pink Floyd up first, I think. Someone needs to go about putting all this into the past tense... - Jetski 3rd July 12:02 (bloody hell, eleven hours...)

I put up the main setlist and format yesterday, when it was announced by the BBC. Ppl just revised it as the day progressed.--Madchester July 2, 2005 23:34 (UTC)

I changed the list from alphabetical order to first of all, the order given by The Guardian newspaper, then to the one I found minutes later on the BBC website. I also overspeculated, sorry about that. Also my idiot sister edited Keane's setlist to include Bend and Break because she cannot tell the difference between 'nd and Break' and 'dshaped'. --62.252.32.13 3 July 2005 00:02 (UTC)

[edit] Edits Being Completed immediately following the concert

I don't want to make these edits as they are just ideas, and I know the sections are being edited as I speak (I am actually saying all of this out loud).

I think there could be a case for replacing "Television Coverage" as a category with "Media coverage". Live 8 London was covered by TV, Radio, various internet streams (AOL had the rights to live video). There is a slight problem with this categorisation, tho', since "Media Coverage" could be seen to imply later newspaper coverage of L8L. Maybe "Live Media Coverage" covers that base.

Then there's room for international live media coverage; the BBC has an article on this. Good luck... --James Kemp 2 July 2005 23:24 (UTC)

To stop this argument, I've created "Radio Coverage" :). --User:9cds

I've added big screens and Internet live streaming as well.--User:howesey

[edit] Sgt Pepper

It was McCartney himself who said this was the first time he had performed the song. When else has it been performed? In any case, his claim should be noted. Andy Mabbett 4 July 2005 12:03 (UTC)

See [1] It was performed every show during his 1989 world tour, where he and his band did "Sgt. Pepper's", then a long instrumental jam section, then "Sgt. Pepper's (reprise)". I saw it meself! He also did just the reprise during his 2002 tour, see [2]. Saw that one too. Do you have a cite for his Live 8 comment that it was the first time? Wasted Time R 4 July 2005 13:44 (UTC)
His interview with Jonathon Ross, from the concert. Andy Mabbett 4 July 2005 14:24 (UTC)
Hmmm. Maybe he got confused with "Helter Skelter"; I believe this was only the second time ever "Helter Skelter" has been played in concert (Paul did it in 2003 in St. Petersburg for the first time). But "Sgt. Pepper" has definitely, positively been played many times before.

[edit] Sting

I seem to remember hearing that Sting's set list was the same as at Live Aid. Is that so? Andy Mabbett 4 July 2005 17:18 (UTC)

No, it wasn't. See the German Live Aid-Article:
  • Sting + Phil Collins (London - Wembley Stadion)
  • Sting: Roxanne, Driven To Tears
  • Phil Collins: Against All Odds
  • Sting: Message In A Bottle
  • Phil Collins: In The Air Tonight
  • Sting + Phil Collins: Long Long Way To Go, Every Breath You Take

[edit] Robbie Williams

RW quoted from a song by Velvet Revolver -whcih was it, and in which of his songs? Andy Mabbett 4 July 2005 17:40 (UTC)

He actually did "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" bit from The Killers' "All The Things That I've Done". during Let Me Entertain You--Madchester July 6, 2005 21:08 (UTC)

[edit] Setup

There should be mention that unlike the other Live 8 concerts, the London show had that VIP section at the very front, while the rest of the 200,000+ were crammed at the back. --Madchester 23:33, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bob Geldoff and Travis

I'm 99% sure that "I Don't Like Mondays" was not performed with Travis. WestJet

I concur! I think someone may be mixed up because what actually happened was that, with Geldof's performance only being a last-minute thing (or so they want us to believe), the backing band just used some of the Travis equipment.

[edit] Pink Floyd

What about Syd Barrett not being at Live 8? Trust me, he was. You can't see him, but he can you...

[edit] London Gospel Choir

There should be a mention to the london Gospel Choir, who sang with Madonna.
