Living Up the Street
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Living up the Street is a book written by Gary Soto. It was published in 1985.
The book is a collection of short stories that don't link together but have a common thread in that they all focus on Soto's childhood and teenage years. In this book there are stories about cultural and economic struggles for Gary and his family. It also is about youthful exuberance and mischief. This story is about when Gary Soto was VERY MEAN in the beginning. He would want to hit and beat up people for no reason. He was also very curious to do anything. One time he was watching T.V. about a house being burned he was so curious to know how that feels. So he and his friends took a match and newspapers and than started to burn the newspaper. He rised the fire by putting leaves and branches and then smoke started coming out. His grandma came to the room and just said, "--How is it going"
