Living Receiver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Living Receiver is a chapter and a reference to the book, Philosophy of Time Travel, the fictitious novel for the movie Donnie Darko which was written by the fictitious character Roberta Sparrow. The term refers to the person closest to the Artifact when it appears inside the Tangent Universe. This person is also the only one who can finally close in the end, the actual loop of the Tangent Universe altogether.
[edit] How The Living Receiver works in the Tangent Universe
In the book the Philosophy of Time Travel, it says according to Roberta Sparrow, that "the closest living person to the Artifact upon its arrival becomes the Living Receiver." In the movie Donnie Darko, Donnie is the Living Receiver automatically because of the spontaneous jet engine that crashes though his room at the time of his actual bed time. Since the Living Receiver is the closet person to the actual artifact, it can be said that they only possess the power to close the loop for good. However, Roberta never was able to completely understand how a Living Receiver was actually chosen. Nevertheless, the Living Receiver is granted powers to help his/her endeavors to close to loop for good.
[edit] Powers of the Living Receiver
As said before, the Living Receiver is granted great powers to help close the loop of the Tangent Universe. In the book it is stated that he/her is granted the abilities as follows:
- Telekinesis
- Superhuman abilities
- Ability to conjure fire
- Ability to conjure water
His ability to conjure water is when he goes to only to break the water valve in his school and flood it. With fire, he only uses gasoline and a lighter to burn the house of Jim Cunningham. He never really conjures the actual powers, he just utilizes the things around him to do so. However, the super strength is another thing, since he uses the axe to fracture the metal water main, as well as impaling the heavy bronze statue on the schools campus. He also telekinetically moved a jet engine into the wormhole.
