Liverpool (El Puerto de Liverpool S.A. de C.V.) is a chain of department stores in Mexico, operating over 20 stores throughout Mexico.

[edit] History

Liverpool, first called The Cloth Case, was founded in 1847 by Jean-Baptiste Ebrard a Frenchman who first started selling clothes in cases in Mexico City's downtown. In 1872, he started importing merchandise from Europe. Much of the merchandise was shipped via Liverpool, England, prompting Ebrard to adopt the name Liverpool for his store.

[edit] Fabricas de Francia

Stores under the name Fabricas de Francia (English: Factories of France) belong to Liverpool as well but don't carry the name. Fabricas de Francia are found in cities not big enough to carry the Liverpool name, even though they are operated and work in the same fashion.
