Jimi Hendrix had a series of four concerts with his Band of Gypsys, on the 1970 New Year's Eve. On this two-disc set, MCA has treated the tapes from the first and second shows. The first disc's track listing (from the first show) includes songs like a classic "Stone Free", an alternate version of "Machine Gun", which is also as stunning as the better known version, and an also good "Izabella". The second disc's track listing (from the second show) includes another stunning version of "Machine Gun", and another classic performance, "Wild Thing". Other songs include "Stepping Stone" and "Earth Blues". Both are also highlights from the album. This is a good addition to a Jimi Hendrix collection. Jimi is in good shape here, and the album serves as a good showplace for the short-lived Band of Gypsys. The album is also part of the definitive MCA reissues catalogue, what makes it important on a collection, too.
