"Live Like You Were Dying" is the story of a diseased man who does not have much time to live. He uses his time left on earth to do all the tings he wanted, and needed, to do. He engages in activities such as skydiving, mountain climbing in the Rocky's, fishing, and bull-riding. The man also becomes the friend and husband he needed to be. He finally reads the Bible and forgives thoses he needed to forgive.
This song is associated with McGraw's father, Tug McGraw, who was hospitalized with a brain tumor on March 12, 2003. It was revealed that he had cancer. He was given three weeks to live by the doctors, but survuved nine months. He died on January 4, 2004.
