[edit] Album information
"Are you ready to rock & roll?" is the question that the leather-clad Céline Dion poses before breaking into song on her 1996 live album Live à Paris, which features mainly songs form D'eux. This album, in fact, has more of a rock feel than any of her other live or studio albums. Dion raises the roof and proves just as adept with harder material as she is with adult contemporary ballads, especially on "Destin," "Prière Païenne," "Regarde-Moi," and "River Deep Mountain High." This album also features its share of ballads, including the set's opener, "J'Attendais," the chart-topping "The Power of Love," the ever-popular "Un Garçon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy)" (as evidenced by the audience singing along to the song), and "Vole," in which the singer brings new meaning to the term "sing your heart out." The album closes with the full-length studio version of "To Love You More," which can be found on the Japanese edition of The Colour of My Love, U.S. edition of Let's Talk About Love album and, in edited form, on her collection All the Way... A Decade of Song.
The disc does not contain the full show. All songs can be found on the Live à Paris home video, released also in 1996. The Paris shows were a part of the D'eux Tour.
Live à Paris won Juno and Félix Awards in 1997.
[edit] Chart success
Live à Paris followed the successful D'eux and topped the charts in France and Switzerland, selling over 2 million copies in Europe and 4 million in total. On November 1, 1996, Céline wrote a new page in the record book of French music industry: she became the very first artist to have 3 of her albums in the French Top 20. That week, Live à Paris entered the chart on top position (her 3rd #1 album in France this year), while Falling into You (7 months after it entered the chart) was still at the 6th position and D'eux was still in 16th position (a year and a half after its release).
It was promoted at the end of 1996 by two radio singles: "Les Derniers Seront Les Premiers" (Europe, Canada) and "To Love You More" (Canada). In June 1997 (8 months after the album's debut), Sony Music decided to release commercial two singles: "J'Attendais" in France (#46) and "Je Sais Pas" in Netherlands (#78).
