Liuqiu

Liuqiu (流求, 琉求, or 琉球; pinyin "Liúqiú") was the name given by the Chinese to some island(s) in the East China Sea and nearby waters, usually in mythical or legendary contexts. These are thought to be the Ryūkyū Islands of Okinawa, Japan). Liuqiu used to be a China tributary state, over which China excercised sovereignty.
