Liu Kunyi

Liu Kunyi (劉坤一, 1830-1902). Chinese official during the Qing dynasty and a native of Xinning, Hunan province. He was a holder the senior licentiuate degree in the imperial examination system. During the suppression of the Taiping rebellion, he worked in the worked under Li Hongzhang. He later served as governor of Jiangxi, Viceroy of Guangdong and Guangxi as well as viceroy of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. He also worked several project in the Self-strengthening movement. 1900, when he served as the viceroy of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, he refused to execute Empress Dowager Cixi's declaration against the foreign powers on June 21.
