Little Red Riding Hood (flash animation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Little Red Riding Hood is a flash animation from Dirty Doll Creations, based on the classic fairy tale. It can be seen on Newgrounds, as well as on various other media-related websites. Unlike the familiar fairy tale, the ending has a very dark twist, and the mother plays the role of the grandmother.
[edit] Synopsis
The flash video begins, as the camera pans towards an old house, at the edge of a wood by a lake at nighttime. A figure is inside, opening up a storybook, and begins to read the story about the little girl, who sports the red-hooded cape. Her mother then decides to move deeper into the forests, but does not want to leave her daughter vulnerable to the dangers of it, so she leaves the girl with her uncle, who is a very strict man, and puts a metal bra on the her, and locks her in a room. Finally, one day the girl outgrows the bra, and her uncle agrees to let her see her mother. However, he warns her NOT to talk to any strangers along the way. The girl promises and immediately heads off to visit her mother. Along the way, a wolf (who looks more like a furry human) pops up and stops the girl dead in her tracks. He asks the girl where she is going and she responds, in spite of what her uncle warned her. The wolf thanks her for the information and hurries off to the woman's house. A hunter, who has been watching the girl and the wolf's conversation, knows what the wolf is up to, and challenges him to a fight. Using his agility, the wolf runs with all his might away from the hunter and to the woman's cottage, where he kills her and eats her up, leaving only some additional pieces of her flesh, and a glass of her blood. Seeing the girl approaching the house, the wolf quickly disguises himself in one of the mother's robes, and jumps into bed. When the girl arrives, he suggests that she eats the meat on the table. When she begins eating, a bird (who has seen the wolf's homicidal deed) warns the girl what she is doing. But the wolf tells her to ignore the bird. Once she has finished the flesh, the wolf suggests she drinks the blood. When she begins drinking, a black cat (who has also seen what the wolf has done) warns the girl what she is drinking. But the wolf tells the girl just to ignore the cat, too. Once she has finished the blood, she feels very sleepy and heads to bed. But as she is heading to bed, she sees that the wolf is staring at her, with a pair of menacing eyes. She is very frightened and states her most famous lines: "What big eyes you have!" "What big arms you have!" "What big ears you have!" and "What big teeth you have!" After she says her last words, the wolf gobbles her up. It is then revealed that the wolf is the storyteller, and we finally see blood dripping from the wolf's mouth onto the words: THE END.
[edit] Trivia
- The flash video is apparently a mixture of various different versions of the tale. The part where Little Red Riding Hood eats her mother's flesh is similar to one of the earliest known versions of the story, entitled "The False Grandmother" (with it being the grandmother's flesh she eats), the hunter featured in this video, also appears in the Brothers Grimm's version, and the wolf's overall victory is similar to the ending of Charles Perrault's version.
