Little Fugitive is a 1953 film which tells the story of a young boy who runs away to Coney Island after he is tricked into believing he has killed his older brother. It stars Richard Brewster, Winifred Cushing, Jay Williams, Will Lee, Charlie Moss, Tommy DeCanio and Richie Andrusco.
The movie was written and directed by Raymond Abrashkin (under the pseudonym "Ray Ashley"), Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin.
The film was also known as The Coney Island Kid.
It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Motion Picture Story. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
Joanna Lipper, who created such documentaries as "Growing Up Fast" and "Inside Out: Portraits of Children," completed a remake of the movie in 2005. The film will have its world premiere in the New American Cinema Competition at the 2006 Seattle International Film Festival. Honoring the film's native Brooklyn roots, the East Coast premiere will take place at the Brooklyn Museum of Art as part of the June 2006 Brooklyn International Film Festival. [1]
