Little Britain Live
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Little Britain Live is a stage show based on the TV sketch series Little Britain and is performed by its stars, Matt Lucas and David Walliams, with help from Paul Putner and Samantha Power. As in the TV show, Tom Baker is the narrator. It was originally announced as a one-month tour starting in November 2005 and ending just before Christmas but it has now become the biggest comedy tour of all time with the final dates being in December 2006. The duo are also doing a month-long run of the show in London's West End in October 2006. In early 2007 Little Britain Live will have several shows in Australia.

[edit] Australian Tour
With a large following in Australia, it made sense to make Australia the first (and so far only) country outside the UK to host Little Britain Live. The show will play in the following cites:
- Melbourne at Vodafone Arena (Melbourne Park)
- Sydney at Hordern Pavilion and Sydney Entertainment Centre
- Brisbane at Brisbane Convention Centre
- Perth at Challenge Stadium
It was announced in October that Walliams and Lucas will do a show in Adelaide too. Many dates sold out within days and before the pre-sales had even begun.

[edit] Trivia
- The content of some sketches varies depending on the show's location.
- The Des Kaye and Marjorie Dawes sketches both include audience participation.
- Early on in the tour, two sketches were cut, both featuring lesser known characters: Viv in one and Pat and Don in the other. Matt Lucas said that this was to increase the pacing of Act 2.
- On 7th November in Sheffield, an obscure joke in the Dennis Waterman sketch was argued over and, due to public demand, was removed completely in subsequent shows. Lucas and Walliams apparently want to include it again for the run in the West End.
- After the initial run in 2005, the Anne and Ting Tong sketches were altered as both of the original ones had been seen on TV.
- Samantha Power's character of Miss Posner in the Vicky Pollard Sketch is named after Geoff Posner, the producer of the Little Britain TV series.
- Two of the show's stars, Anthony Head and Ruth Jones, don't appear in the show but made guest appearances in a performance in Blackpool. They both also made an appearance on the opening night at the Hammersmith Apollo. On the 7th of December's rescheduled show in Cardiff Anthony appeared in the prime minister sketch and both he and Ruth appeared in the Dafydd sketch at the end.
- A DVD of the show was filmed in Blackpool on 9 May 2006 and will be released in late 2006.
- The show runs for 140 minutes with an interval.
- The show tricks people into thinking no Daffyd sketch was included. However, as the show ends and expect people to be leaving the theatre, Tom Baker mentions that there was one place where the show didn't take the audience, being Wales, homeland of Daffyd.
- In the show, Matt and David mess up on occasion, but continue through improvisation often on the subject of David's questionable sexuality. In the 7th of December rescheduled Cardiff performance Matt and David spoofed on both the Vicky sketch and the Mr Man sketch. The Mr Man sketch was messed up when a random audience member replied to Roy's call for his wife Margret. This led to a 10 minute discussion on Matt's homosexuality and David's supposed closet sexuality. It was then bought to the duo's attention that a bunch of school children were at the performance as part of a school trip and David apologized by saying 'We're fucking sorry kids!'. The audience member who shouted out this was referred to as a 'p***ed taffy' by Matt and David. During the Carol sketch reference was made to an undesirable part of Cardiff called Splott it was mentioned when Carol was listing a bunch of destinations the computer returned.
- The pair do research on the places in which they are performing and try hard to include that in the show.
- Lucas and Walliams play along with any audience interjections. For example:
-In Glasgow, during the Mr Mann sketch someone shouted out, "Yeah I know" and Mr Mann said, "That scene was an hour ago." Walliams added, "In an hour's time they will be shouting 'Margret... Margret'..."
-Another occurrence was in Southend, during the "Fat Fighters" sketch, when Marjorie Dawes claimed that she loves cake, someone shouted, "Yeah, we can see that," causing Lucas to swear and make obscence hand gestures to the audience member, continuing throughout the sketch.
-Also, in a Newcastle show, in Vicky Pollard's sketch, an audience member shouted out "Go on vicky!" and she said back "Shut up! I saw you in the metrocentre showing off your f****." The metrocentre is a local shopping centre.
-In Wolverhampton, during the Mr Mann sketch, a crowd audience shouted "Georgie Dawes what are the scores?!", aimed at Lucas from his Shooting Stars days as the character Georgie Dawes. Walliams covered this by claiming it was a "pissed-up Brummie".
-In Manchester, during the "Margret... Margret..." line of the Mr Mann sketch, an audience member called out "Yes?", prompting Walliams to proclaim "I must point out that's not Margaret, just a pissed up Mancunian". The same occurred in Belfast causing Walliams to say, "Sorry, thats just a drunk Irish lady!"
- Daffyd's gay song which he sings in the show's encore, was released as a download from iTunes on December 4 2006.
