Lite-On is a popular Taiwanese manufacturer of DVD and CD writers. Their products are usually very inexpensive and used by OEM PC manufacturers. Many drives are actually re-branded Lite-On drives. The name "Lite-On" is pronounced "Light On".
Lite-On drives are also popular among experts for their bitsetting features, the learning mode (HyperTuning), the disc quality (C1/C2, PIE/PIF, Jitter/Beta, TE/FE) scanning, and the huge number of unofficial tools and firmwares available for the drives.
In 2006, Lite-On IT acquired BenQ's Optical Disc Drive (ODD) business. Lite-On IT is now the second largest optical disc drive manufacturer in the world.
