Litang County

Litang (Tibetan in Wylie transliteration: li thang; Chinese: 理塘, Pinyin: Lǐtáng) is a county in the southwest of the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province of China. It is located at an altitute of 4014 metres and in 2001 had a population of 47,500. Several famous Buddhist figures were born here, including Kelsang Gyaco, the 7th Dalai Lama, Jêzün Tamba (rje btsun dam pa) of Mongolia and the 5th Jamjang of Labrang.
