This page and Images of Saddam Hussein are two DIFFERENT pages. This page lists PD images, while Images of Saddam Hussein lists ALL IMAGES WHICH CAN BY POLICY BE USED WITHIN WIKIPEDIA *and* that are not in the main Saddam Hussein article. There was no need to remove it and replace it with this. --Cantus 10:33, Jul 25, 2004 (UTC)

You can find the entire debate from Aug 2004 on its original VfD subpage. There is still much disagreement about how this page should be named, and whether it should be in the article space. +sj+

As for the PD-only nature of "Wikipedia:List of images", I don't know whether this is a good idea or not, but the forthcoming Wikicommons will allow all content that is allowed in Wikipedia, though it will require more detailed labels and source info for content. It won't be enforcing its preferred file formats or image types by excluding all the rest, afaik; only encouraging and featuring the preferred formats.
