Talk:List of sports flops
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What is this all about? What is a sports bust anyway? I got a whole load of English Premier Leauge football stars in miniture in my cereal packets a few years back, do these count ?? Stamford spiney 09:26, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Articles for Deletion debate
This article survived an Articles for Deletion debate. The discussion can be found here. -Splashtalk 19:50, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup tags, etc.
Disclaimer: I voted Deletein the AfD debate, and was probably the most vocal advocate of deletion.
I have added three tags to the article. The reason for {{cleanup}} is self-evident. {{verify}} and {{npov}} may be overkill; I guess either one would suffice. My reasoning is that inclusion of a player on this page should come with some objective evidence - citations, stats, dollar figures, etc. I'd just as soon see this page go, but if it's going to stay here, let's try to at least set some guidelines for who gets included. | Keithlaw 01:06, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Non-US Sports
If this page is going to stay, I am going to suggest that more non-US sports are included (the only one at time of writing is tennis, but the US seems to dominate this sport anyway). The FA Premier League has been mentioned in this discussion, so why not include association football (soccer), a sport which is huge outside North America? Another thing is how much depth this article should go into - as is said above, there must be a great deal of sports 'superstars' that didn't live up to their potentials. What do others think about this issue? Andrew 22:16, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] List of NHL Draft Busts
The sports flops article survived the votes for deletion. I wonder if there is any hope for List of NHL Draft Busts, List of NFL Draft Busts, List of NHL Draft Steals, and List of NFL Draft Steals. I feel that those four articles are far better (in many ways) than the list of Sports Flops, I have hope that they can survive. Masterhatch 06:38, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Should be merged with List of Flops in Entertainment
Although many people have neen saying that they should delete or clean up this page, it should be merged with the Entertainment Flops (Sports part). Of course, many circles differ in telling who is a failure, and who isn't; there are some who should be placed in the merger (Sam Bowie, Ryan Leaf, etc.).
This is my first request for anything, though. Homer Simpson on Nov. 11 10:27 A.M.
[edit] Mike Williams and Roy Williams busts?
This is a complete and utter lie. In no way at all are they considered flops or busts. Whoever put this here must be either a) an idiot or b) a hater of the Detroit Lions. While I am not a Lions fan, I am unbiased enough to know that these two are not busts. Mike Williams JUST finished his rookie year, and although it was not amazing, it was not completely horrible. In sports rookies do not always have great success. Roy Williams posted 817 yards and 8 touchdowns his first year and 687 yards and 8 touchdowns in his second year, which was marred by injuries. This list is not credible at all.
[edit] Response To above
You are right and they did come from some good schools USC and Texas, but why have the Lions not have much success?
[edit] NASCAR in movies
Quoting NASCAR in film such as Days of Thunder and Stroker Ace and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby have failed to potray the true nature of racing, despite the latter being a parody.
I have placed it here rather than at the main page as aren't movies supposed to be like that, you can't expect them to portray them realistically?

[edit] A-Rod a Failure?
Poor clutch performance aside, it seems to me that a look at A-Rod's stats and his status as a former MVP, plus the chance that he could potentially retire with the all-time home run title negates A-Rod being a failure. Perhaps he should be taken off this list?
[edit] I agree with you
A-Rod is not a failure he has been decent enough to avoid this list. He just does not get any respect from the fans. He is just a regular season guy. He will be a Hall Of Famer regardless of if he wins a title. I say TAKE THE MAN OFF.
[edit] Robin Miller's list of the 20 Worst Champ Car Drivers
Can somebody please explain why this list was removed and what is the reason for it. Willirennen 15.10, 12 December 2006 (utc)
[edit] NASCAR entry removal nominations
I am very tempted to remove some of the entries, but before anybody accuse me of vandalism which has happened before in another edit, I have listed them below and explained why they have been nominated for removal.
- Chip Ganassi Racing - still active, nominated as a team/driver is not considered as a flop unless they have given up.
- J.D. McDuffie & Bobby Wawak - were they ever expected to win, McDuffie was a privately funded driver, so therefore he have never been expected to create result
- Jason Leffler, Johnny Benson, Brian Vickers & Bobby Hillin - has all each won one race, therefore does that make them a failure. You can see in my F1 entry here that I have not mentioned drivers that won at least one race, unless it is a case of how joining a team ruined their career or never for if they became past their sell-by-date within a short period.
- Rob Moroso - very hard to think why that should be nominated, there are plenty sportspeople who were killed before they could reach their potential.
I think this list needs redefining, don't anybody think so. Willirennen 01:29, 15 December 2006 (utc)
