[edit] Website with this info

Is there a reason not to use this website?

http://www.songtitle.info/

Sorry, I forgot to sign the above question. --Eric Jack Nash 18:02, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

OK, nothing said by anyone else on this subject. I'll start using the info from this site. I'll also cite it.
On another note, what about getting this info in a certain order. It seems like we were trying to have it chronological, but that doesn't seem to be working. Any thoughts? --Eric Jack Nash 00:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

OK, here's the info, from an Excel file that I compiled about a year ago from the website above. First is the the US info that we have on the actual article page, then you'll see all the info that we have at our disposal.

I forgot to sign. --Eric Jack Nash 03:00, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Scratch using the info below. Later today or tomorrow I will replace it resorted with the song at the beginning of each line to match what I've done out on the actual page. --Eric Jack Nash 16:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
You can obviously see (I think) that I have replaced the info below and started incorporating it into the actual article page. Anyone have any thoughts on the organization of it - the alphabetizing, subsections, and toc? --Eric Jack Nash 20:43, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to delete the info below, as it has all been incorporated into the article and no longer (after two months) needs to sit here. Let me know if this is not a good thing to do. Thanks. --Eric Jack Nash 12:16, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, there are reasons not to ONLY use songtitle.info for this information. From the songtitle FAQ: "At least one false entry has been included for watermarking purposes." Meaning, the information from that site isn't completely accurate, which makes it an unreliable source. Also, the site isn't updated on a regular basis, which is understandable given the size/scope of tracking so many commercials and the music used. That also makes maintaining such a large list at Wikipedia a bit daunting as well, no? Finally, many allege that songtitle obtains all of it's info from other sites without crediting them as a source, which is a bit hypocritical when reading their FAQ. (But those types of allegations are for others to decide.) --Jca2112 05:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
So it is okay to use the website, which, of course I have. But just as long as ONLY that site is not used alone (is that redundant?). And in a sense that is not the case. Myself and many others have added and fixed various entries. Thanks. --Eric Jack Nash 12:24, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Just responding to your original question -- it implied that you were asking if that site should be the only source (or that it was the only source being used, which I assume would conflict with the Wikipedia "verifiable sources" manidate) -- sorry if I misunderstood you. Do you know which one (or more) of the entries are the (intentionally) "false" ones at songtitle? --Jca2112 18:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
I don't know Jca2112. But here's a website that also has some of this kind of info. I haven't looked into it heavily so I don't know what it might say about using info from it. --Eric Jack Nash 16:57, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Um, yeah, are you trying to imply something? :) I didn't edit the article or mention any other sites or say that you should be looking elsewhere or at any other specific sites, etc. since that wouldn't be very "neutral" of me, now would it? But you knew that already. :) I was simply responding to your original question: "Is there a reason not to use this website?" by quoting that own site's FAQ back to you. Sorry if there was any confusion. If you think I shouldn't be commenting in the DISCUSSION here because of an connection to adtunes, then let me know. --Jca2112 17:08, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
First, let me say that I'm still learning here at Wikipedia. And also, it's hard "hearing" the full meaning of written text, versus normal person to person conversation in the real world. I hope that nothing that I say is ever taken the wrong way.
Second, to answer your first question, no, I'm not trying to imply anything. :) I posted that link so that others, you, anyone, and myself, could go there and do whatever with it as they wish. Just disseminating information. :)
Third, thank you for your help by answering my original question, however when I asked it and didn't get a response back I went ahead and did what I had in mind. You came along and answered a question five months after it was asked. I'm not sure that the answer you gave helps this article at this time (please help if you or anyone else knows how to use what's been discussed here to make this article better), however I'm glad that you answered it because it helps me be a better Wikipedian.
Fourth, I don't know of any reason anyone shouldn't comment anywhere here on Wikipedia. I didn't know that you were connected to adtunes, but as I just said, I don't think it matters, but maybe it does. I don't know.
Again, thanks. Any communication is welcome by me (and if it wasn't I don't know how I could stop it if I wanted to), and any reply to any of it that I make is merely me trying to be a better Wikipedian and make Wikipedia better. --Eric Jack Nash 19:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Find a song

I'm currently trying to find a song I heard on a commercial that aired about every five minutes in the summer of 2003. I believe it was for a drug of some kind, and the lyrics went:

Monday morning
Up with the lark,
Think I'll take a
walk in the park;
Hey, hey, hey
It's a beautiful day.

If you know the lyrics you can generally punch them into a search engine (in quotes); I think this is your song --Tokalon73 20:25, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I don't get it

Why is this list allowed to stay yet the List of television commercials gets deleted? It seems to me that the jingles within a television commercial are of less importance than the commercials themselves. NorthernThunder 05:45, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Is there any way to find out why the other list was deleted? Anyone? Thanks. --Eric Jack Nash 12:45, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Deletion nominations are usually archived [1]. NorthernThunder 17:05, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
So to try to answer your question, unless you meant it rhetorically, I don't know. But it seems to me that maybe this list shouldn't stay. The biggest reason that the other list was deleted seems to me to be because of length, which bred from the issue of whether certain commercials would be deemed notable. In this list it says "widely seen". That too might be debatable. I would have to agree with you that "the jingles within a television commercial are of less importance than the commercials themselves". So, how do we proceed? Thanks. --Eric Jack Nash 12:32, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scrap the US/UK/Australia etc. and have one big list?

I think we should, any opinions? Cardboard boxA 21:02, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
