[edit] Goonies 404 message?
There's a 404 message given by Edna the witch saying "We only serve water here!". Is this a refence to The Goonies? I seem to remember when the kids enter the Fratelli restaurant the mother says something along these lines, but I can't remember what, or if I'm mistaken. Can someone else confirm that this is right/wrong, and update the page if necessary? Tim from Leeds 23:49, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

- What's with all these "404" messages?! WHAT IS 404?!?! IRK!
[edit] Sticks N' Stones
Quote: "Bands playing at the Tyrannian Concert Hall include M*YNCI (a boy band, a la *NSYNC), Blue Kacheek Group (Blue Man Group) and Sticks N' Stones (Guns N' Roses)." - The last one seems a little shaky; what's the evidence for a similarity besides the N' in the name? AySz88^-^ 06:58, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
- The members of the bands match up. (I couldn't tell you which is which, but a friend of mine is a Guns N' Roses fan, and she noticed it.) Sailorptah 20:13, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think the Guns N' Roses connection is pretty evident, but there could also be a reference to the Rolling Stones there. I somewhat doubt it, though. I am, however, unsure about the "Chomby and the Fungus Balls" being listed as references to Josie and the Pussycats and the Beach Boys. As far as the name goes, I think "Someone and the Somethings" is a pretty common band name structure - I really don't see anything that's a reference to the newer movies, or the older show. As for the Beach Boys... I'm not familiar with their image as much as their music, but I'm not seeing many parallels there either. Ministry of Silly Walks 22:56, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Super Happy etc Shop
The shop 'Super Happy Icy Fun Snow Shop' is a joke loosely based on a shop that had an equally ridiculously long name.
- I think we need the real-life shop's name to include this. AySz88^-^ 03:43, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- There's a club in Houston called "Super Happy Fun Land" but I doubt it's related. Ministry of Silly Walks 17:04, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Is there a REVERSE of this??
You know, list of Neopian references in RL pop culture, movies, or any at least fairly well known areas of Real life? --Shultz 03:57, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Y'know, I could have sworn I saw a Titanic Giant Squid (Neopian item) in the movie, Fun With Dick and Jane -- `67.184.171.198 12:04, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] You're Fired!
One of the characters in Whack-A-Staff-Member (I think Mr. Insane, the one worth 13.498 points) says "You're Fired!" in reference to The Apprentice.
- Fair enough, put it in the article! Tim from Leeds 16:11, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'll put it in because it's a perfectly valid reference Tim from Leeds 16:02, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Apollo 13 404 message?
- One of the 404 messages is Neopia... we have a problem..., which might be a reference to the quote from the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Bart133 14:47, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree it is a reference to it, so I'll add it to the page Tim from Leeds 16:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cheat!
Is it fair to say cheat! has the same rules as bullshit? They're one and the same game
- You're right; that's like saying "Hey, Kacheek Seek is just like Hide and Seek." I've pulled it from the page. Sailorptah 20:10, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Item "Black Eyed Peas"
There is an Item called "Black Eyed Peas". Seems to me it is a reference to the popular band "Black Eyed Peas".
- Or maybe it's referring to the vegetable? Unless it deals with music, leave it out.
- Edited. It's not a reference to the band. Yet another thing that came out AFTER the item in Neopets. The Black Eyed Peas in the game are, you guessed it -- peas that look like eyes. --Chacharu 11:13, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup tag
Hey -- someone needs to edit this thing down. I'm not sure this article should exist at all, but this is currently an indiscriminate collection of information, and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Mangojuicetalk 02:32, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Would it make more sense if it was separated by theme of references? (Reference to movies, music, other games)
[edit] Not a Harry Potter reference
The whole 'Lupin' and 'Lupid' things are not Harry Potter references. The word lupus means wolf in Latin, as the character does indeed look like a wolf.
- Agreed. The Neopets character, likely named Lupid because he is a wolflike species of Neopet, was also incorrectly noted as "Professor Lupid", when it is in fact "Mr. Lupid"; he is an art teacher and bears no resemblance to the character whatsoever other than sharing his name's etymology with Lupin's. Edited. --Chacharu 11:16, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About the Acara Nurse TCG card
If you go to the Haunted Woods checklist, there's the Acara Nurse, and she's being grabbed from underneath a white sheet by a zombie. Think it's a reference to the Silent Hill series? Oubliette 13:08, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't be surprised. I can't think of any other explanation, honestly. --Chacharu 11:10, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speculation
95% of this information is fun and informative, but I found about 5% that was total speculation or just a tad bit of reaching for the purpose of entertainment. For example, many of these "references" are simply coincidence (the Sun Rod), completely impossible (in the case of a mistaken Neopets "reference" being created before the actual subject being referred to ever existed), or referring to a multitude of subjects, and not just one obscure thing (i.e. the Devilfish/PVP "reference"). I understand that the point of this article is to be fun and informative, but let's get some documentation before slapping down anything that we happen to think "may" be a reference. And if there's no documentation to be had, feel free to post it, but please instead say "MAY be a reference", "could be", "possibly", or "probably" instead of using the word "is" without proof of fact. It's very misleading. --Chacharu 11:10, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Frantics' "Tai Kwan Leep"
When told to be patient by another character (the Game Graveyard Caretaker) in the Haunted Woods plot, Sophie the Swamp Witch replies, "Yeah, yeah, patience. How long will that take?" This line is spoken by Ed Gruberman in the Frantics' comedy sketch "Tai Kwan Leep" from their 1987 album Boot to the Head.
[edit] "Similar" games
I know someone brought this up earlier, but I'm spotting more and more instances of "this game is similar to another game named _______." I really don't think this is what this article was intended to document. If we listed every case of this, it would make up half of the list - Korbat's Lab is just like PONG, Faerie Bubbles is just like Bubble Bobble, and Neggsweeper resembles Minesweeper (computer game), among countless other similar cases.
