Talk:List of photographic films

This needs a clean up, Putting Wide for lattitude and Fine for Granularity is meaningless. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.77.234.64 (talk • contribs).

What would you suggest? Those terms aren't meaningless, would you like numbers instead? Unfortunately Kodak uses a different measurement for grain from everyone else ("print grain index" vs RMS). Imroy 13:02, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I think that a lot of Kodaks RMS figures have been worked out by third parties

[edit] Cleanup advice

I think that the intended scope and depth of the list is too big for this to become both informative and comprehensive, due to acceptable sizes as per the Manual of Style. What may be more workable and better formatting-wise would be to create an infobox for film specs and characteristics, which you could then incorporate into the individual articles for the films. Then you could simply format this list as a table with the film name (and link to the film's article), maybe a year of introduction, year of discontinuation (if so), manufacturer, and simple qualifiers like color/b&w/infrared, negative/reversal, so on. Anyway, that's my two cents. Good luck! Girolamo Savonarola 17:21, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

That's an interesting idea. It could certainly help get much of the listcruft out of this article. I can see a number of problems though. Firstly, many films don't have articles. Creating a bunch of articles, each containing little more than an infobox, might see them quickly being nominated for deletion (AfD). I'm not sure much can be written about many films. Secondly, most films have several speeds, some of which are quite different. For example - Velvia 50, 100F, and 100. Each speed was developed and introduced with many years inbetween. Velvia 100 also has colour correction layers from Provia. So I'm not sure how all this different information should be shown in an infobox (presumedly just one per film). I guess the only option would be to remove much of the data. What information did you think should be in an infobox? --Imroy 06:22, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I've made Template:Infobox Photographic film and have added it to a number of existing film articles. --Imroy 07:05, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
