Talk:List of people by name: Anders

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What exactly is "standard" in a ====== heading ====== ?

Why do you insist on the rather silly "Anderso"? Who is called "Anderso"?

Good questions. Where are the answers? Alter Ego 16:58, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

If you love detail—otherwise you wouldn't have changed the format—why don't you object to "People named Anders" and "People named Anderson" being on two different levels (see below)?

By all means have your way, but I myself find it much more important to have a complete list. |l'KF'l| 11:48, Aug 18, 2004 (UTC)

I'd have wanted to answer this if i'd noticed when it was timely. 18 months later, my answer would probably be different, and might or might not (i'm not studying the details yet) be different when i've done more with the format currently demonstrated on the pages currently listed on User:Jerzy/LoPbN Pilot Pages. I'm planning to view the rest of these talk pages before reviewing & then considering whether to drop a note on yr tk page, but don't hesitate to let me know that your interest in that question continues.

_ _ The above is at least related to the change i just reverted, which is specific enuf to focus easily on: in that case, the IP editor made visible the Anderson hdg and hid the Anderso one, presumably for the greater naturalness of Anderson. The problem with that specific change is that it made Anderson an ToC entry at the same depth as Andersc and Anderss despite it differing in length from them. It taking some thot to grasp the hierarchy of potential name ranges, it is common for users to start a legitimate range but place it at the wrong level, or widen an existing range into that defies the hierarchy, for instance, if the first Anderw... name showed up after the Anderss... ones, changing the Anderss hdg to
Anderss-
Anderw
which amounts to modelling two dissimilar (different level) underlying ranges of potential names Anderss-Andersz and Andert-Anderw as a range that ignores the value of that hierarchy for grasping the scopes. Having Anderss and Anderson at the same level in the ToC invites less orderly bridging of levels, and impedes inspection of ToCs, against range chaos, by burdening it with false positives.
_ _ Not by any means a bone-headed change, but unfortunately not a good one either.
