[edit] Old talk
We seem to have two pages covering much rthe same area, this page and Girl bands- would it be useful to merge the content of these pages rather than let them diverge independently of each other? quercus robur 00:51 Feb 5, 2003 (UTC)
- I think the list should be kept separate from the main article, though they should both be at either "bands" or "groups", with the opposite being a redirect. And I vote for girl group and list of girl groups. Tokerboy

- I agree, an article with a seperate 'list of' page (well pages, actually) seems to have worked well enough for punk rock quercus robur 00:56 Feb 5, 2003 (UTC)
First, I agree with TUF-KAT (formerly Tokerboy) that there be articles for girl group and list of girl groups. Also, would anyone be so upset if those who are not groups (Cher, Lulu, etc.) were removed from this list? I don't feel that they belong. Two halves 05:59 Feb 22, 2003 (UTC)
- Well... I think it's more complicated than number of members. IMO, and I think I'm alone in this, girl group refers only to groups from the early to mid-1960s. Hence, the Spice Girls are not a girl group, even though they are a group composed entirely of girls. In my mind, the Chantels, the Angels, the Supremes and Lesley Gore are "girl groups" in the definition as a genre, even though Gore is one person and not a group. Tuf-Kat
Gee TK, I don't know. I see your point in that if girl group were a genre of music, The Cookies, The Ronettes, and Dee Dee Sharp would all belong together. I don't think you would put The Four Seasons, The Lettermen, The Beach Boys, and Neil Sedaka together if you were doing boy groups, however, unless it were a genre, which it isn't.
I hope that was illustrative; it was the best I could do with a crayon. I will not alter the list at this time. Two halves 06:59 Feb 22, 2003 (UTC)
- Some googling reveals that most of the sites that come up are referring specifically to the early to mid 60s groups, and seem to include Lesley Gore and such. A not insignificant number refer to more modern groups, and only groups, composed entirely of girls. Maybe the best solution is to include two lists (on one page) with one marked as being the more specific, and the other the more vague. Tuf-Kat
[edit] List cleanup
Like with all lists in wikipedia (and with all articles), the major criteria of incusion are notability and verifiability. Therefore the redlinked entries must unfortunately go. Check out, eg List of webcomics or Internet phenomenon, which have long been plagued with garbage.
Since this is the initial cleanup, I am moving the redlinked items here. In the future, please make sure the articles exist, so that they may be checked against vanity/hoax by WP:AFD.
I apologize for inconvenience, I am aware I am ignorant in the topic, and some of the below may quite prominent, but unlucky with wikipeditors. But wikipedia is pretty much mature now with over 1,000,000 english articles, so if someone's article is missing, then it is a good chance that no one will miss it. mikka (t) 20:44, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
I am well aware that I may piss off the fans and permanent contributors by such a massive deletion. As a trade-off, it may be reasonable to put back the red names with reasonable wikipedia context (eg 21st Century Girls, although they are mentioned as an example of a flop in Simon Fuller article). Also, if someone really vouches for some band, please at least add a weblink with reasonable info, so that at least the artist is verifiable, if not prominent.
Please be also aware of Wikipedia:Notability (music) gueidelines. mikka (t) 20:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
