Talk:List of final appearances in Marvel Comics publications
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From VfD:
Two lists full of red links that have been copied out of various Marvel Comics reference books. Aside from the fact that they're terribly obscure fandom-specific topics, they're also subject to change whenever the character who's had their "final" appearance reappars or if a character receives a new or revised origin. -Sean Curtin 03:05, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep "Origins" -- definitely. When I ask myself, "Could this information be useful to someone researching X topic?" The answer is yes. If the information is obscure, then that means it may be more valuable to archive since 10,000 other places on the Internet don't already have it. Davodd 11:47, Aug 12, 2004 (UTC)
- Except that they do already have it: the information in these lists was copied directly from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, the contents of which are made available online (in a flagrant violation of copyright) from many fansites. That, and most of the "origins" are exactly the same as the characters' first appearances, and half of the characters listed are so obscure that they don't merit Wikipedia entries (the American Eagle? come on, now). -Sean Curtin 14:16, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- First of all the origins and final appearances lists is far from complete, it was just some spillover from the work concerning the first appearancess list, that I thought better something than nothing. Secondly as for final appearances, well only obscure characters tend to do final appearances, at least permanent ones. Thirdly, well, origins and first appearances tend to be the same, true. However far from all characters have origins so I thought a separate orgins list might be useful. In short, I'm against removing the origins page, but I don't care that much about the final appearances page. --Patrik Stridvall 18:38, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Judging by: What to list and not list on VfD, it is still a keep IMO. The topic itself is valid. If you think the content is a copyvio - list it on the copyvio page. Davodd 16:52, Aug 12, 2004 (UTC)
- No vote. I have to agree with Davodd in the fact that this should not be listed on the VfD page. I see no harm in the list, but since I don't think it belongs here one way or the other, I am going to withhold my vote. Skyler 01:40, Aug 13, 2004 (UTC)
- The lists are just pure facts so it can't possibly be any copyright problems. The same can't be said about the sites though. Not that it is our problem... --Patrik Stridvall 18:38, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
