Talk:List of famous automobiles
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The most famous roadgoing vehicle in the world?
Some would say it is the motorcycle from Lawrence of Arabia, a Brough Superior SS100.
No car I can think of can match itself to such an important historical character.
I can't believe the T/A from Smokey and The Bandit's not listed!
[edit] Cleanup
This article seems to be a little disorganized. My main concern is that most of these lists are very incomplete (and more complete versions of the lists often exist in other articles), and that, were the lists to be expanded, the article would become far too large. In general, I think most of the vehicles listed here should be moved elsewhere, and if there's enough non-overlapping vehicles here, that the scope of the article be reduced to cover just the remaining list.
- I suggest the fictional vehicles be moved off to List of fictional vehicles and Category:Fictional vehicles
- I suggest the monster trucks be moved off to Category:Monster trucks, there are way too many to enumerate in this article
- Similarly, the number of automobiles that have won races (even just those that have been very successful in racing) is pretty long, and either should be enumerated more fully in a separate article, or removed altogether. Also, these may overlap a fair bit with List of supercars, Sports Car International Top Sports Cars, or Automobile Magazine 100 Coolest Cars
- For land speed records, those can go to Land speed record or Category:Land speed record
- In terms of general awards or top honors, many are likely covered by the fairly complete List of automotive superlatives

- Also, "famous" seems like it could be defined in several ways, and therefore, different kinds of editors/readers would consider different groups of vehicles as famous:
- Well known vehicles
- Technically superior vehicles, even if not widely popular
- Historically significant vehicles, even if not widely popular
- Vehicles that are tied to a specific field (eg. marketing), and may or may not be widely popular
- Also, I really think that things like Little Red Corvette and Little Deuce Coupe shouldn't be included (or should be included something like List of media focused on an automobile), because they're songs that refer to an automobile, rather than being an actual automobile (eg. the Batmobile is a specific series of automobiles, event if they're fictional to some extent)
- --Interiot 17:11, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- also, is it a famous car, or a famous make or model of car? and the Scooby Doo van and the Monkeemobile are fictional cars in two entirely different waysGzuckier 20:50, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Green Monster
I changed the link to Green Monster (car) due to Green Monster linking to Wrigley Field... - Adolphus79 02:12, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A question on how famous are these cars
I would like to quest how famous are these cars as some of these are going to be forgotten in a few years time, these are the list I would like to propose to delete.
- BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed: Most Wanted - not as memorable as the convertible Testarossa from Outrun.
- Bond Cars as driven by 007-I can only see the only few that are still best remembered are the Aston Martin DB5, Lotus Espirit
- White with blue stripes Mustang Cobra II, an orange Pinto, a yellow Ford Mustang II Ghia, and green Ford Thunderbird from Charlies Angels. - I read somewhere that these are forgotten automotive atrocities for real life cars.
- Ford Crown Victoria taxi and her enemy, BMW 7 Series from the 2004 film Taxi-Like the film, I don't think any of these will be remembered in a few years time compared to the taxi of the French version.
- main charactors' silver Nissan Skyline GT-R, purple Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder and yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII from 2 Fast 2 Furious - I don't think any of these are that famous
- main charactors' Mazda RX-8, Ford Mustang Fastback, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, and Nissan 350Z from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - ...nor are these
