Talk:List of dictators/Omar Bongo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have no idea the facts about Bongo, but there's no point in simply edit warring about it. Please discuss the evidence here. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 08:32, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
My evidence is contained in my edit. I don't consider this as anything near an edit war. —Sesel 22:44, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
The same user who keeps on removing Bongo's name also tried to add Ariel Sharon. So I don't find his opinions on the subject of dictators particularly credible. —Sesel 21:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed that editor adding Sharon too, which is quite spurious. So I agree that the burden is on someone who wants to remove Bondo to provide an explanation on this page first. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 21:55, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Omar Bongo is no dictator. He hav never kill million of people and Gabon is one of the riches countrie in Afrika. Swedenman 20:24, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, Swedenman's comments do not speak to the list criteria, but simply to a positive or negative appraisal of Bongo that is outside the scope of this article. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 20:53, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm really tiring of this. I'll seek a temporary ban if this continues. —Sesel 05:50, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Please tell me why he is a diktator. Swedenman 16:11, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
THE REASONS ARE CONTAINED IN THE EDIT!! —Sesel 16:35, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- Although not much good can be said for Swedenman's editing style or history with adding Sharon, I'm starting to agree that Bongo is not sufficiently evidenced. Neither the WP article on Bongo nor the list annoation given really seems to motivate either of the required list criteria:
-
- is an absolute ruler of a sovereign state;
- governs outside the otherwise accepted rule of law;
- We can maybe get an insinuation of "absolute ruler", but the idea that he has greater powers than a regular presidential office is not explicitly stated. But most particularly, there seems no suggestion at all that he governed outside rule-of-law. A single-party state can be constitutional, and isolated human rights violations or even individual acts outside rule-of-law is not enough for inclusion. I want some greater external citation to support the criteria at this point. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 16:43, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
