Talk:List of cities in Syria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've removed the cities of Alexandretta, Antioch from this list. These are old names for Iskenderun and Antakya, both of which have been in Turkey, not Syria, since the 1930s; see Hatay. Syria does dispute Turkey's sovereignty over the Hatay, but the region is pretty clearly part of Turkey now. If these cities must be in this list, they can't be listed without specific comment as to their status. I think it's best they aren't there at all. CDC (talk) 18:05, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] They're governorates

The first list is that of the governorates not the "capital cities of governorates".

Yes, they are capital cities. For proper governorates articles refer to Template:Governorates of Syria. - Darwinek 10:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
