"Names for characters were often different between the Japanse release and the Western release. For example, Optimus Prime is called Convoy in Japan. This is why you will often see different names referring to the same character/planet/race etc." I'm not quite sure about it. It seems to me that Convoy and Optimus Prime were different characters...

"Megatron is now a tank, due to some Toy marketing laws. This trend will stay. "

-- what was he before? i'd like more of an explanation about these laws, too.

He was originally a realistic looking handgun. But in this day and age there has been an outcry against realistic guns (they can be confused for the real thing) and there are some laws against them. So he became a tank instead. Timrollpickering 18:02, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Convoy and Optimus Prime are the same character, like it says. you might be thinking of Ginrai--24.222.239.180 19:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Carbombya

Hi, could somoeone familiar with the transformers universe categories this article Carbombya, thanks --nixie 01:49, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Comics

The first subsection of the "comics" section is hopelessly mistitled. It gives the impression that the original G1 series only had 4 issues (as it was planned to). Only by reading the end of the last sentence of the last paragraph will you ever know that 95% of the comic even existed. The section should be rewritten to better reflect the plot of the rest of the comics. JIP | Talk 17:38, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I've now edited it to mention the rest of the series too, but it's still a stub. JIP | Talk 04:14, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Could someone check the edits made by User:209.135.123.8 [1] and revert if appropriate. –MT 18:11, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

There is some validity to adding Canada, as the show was made in Canada, but it was made for showing in North America and Europe. However, since it was licenced by an American company, it can be presumed the series was made for American audiances. I went ahead and changed it back, as well as changing references to the non-japanese series to "Western", as they were shown in the US, Canada, and Europe. –FortMaxT 19:12, 11 November 2005 (CST)

[edit] Original Transformers

Is it just me, or are there articles on every series of Transformers except for the first one? I'm sure I must have just missed it somehow ... - 211.28.82.103 07:44, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

I've changed the word 'races' to 'factions' in the description of the first season of Transformers. In TF:TM the narrator refers to ALL Transformers when he calls them "a unique race of transforming robots." I think it is more accurate to refer to Autobots and Decepticons as subgroups akin political groups or even nationalities within the Transformer race. - CPM

Transformers should be on "The List of Shows That Suck" --66.218.28.217 05:03, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I have to agree. --Yancyfry jr 22:43, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article Separation?

I was wondering if you guys thought about splitting the different shows in to different articles. Which in turn would make it a lot smaller, and easier to navigate. Say G1 has its own article as well as the rest though, I noticed Beast Wars has its own already, then have this article as a general one that gives a less detailed overview of everything. Or things that do not fit in any of the show articles. This way also we can add more information and pictures with out having this particular main overview article go over its max amount of space. It is sort of like this, you would not have each individual character from one of the series have a full length biography on the main article of the show when you could just make a separate article for that particular character. I just wanted to ask what you guys thought before I, or if someone else wants to help, to start separating the main article's show information. Alus 23:33, 1 December, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article Merger

I agree with Alus. Either a merger or a seperation may be required. It seems that much of the information on this page is duplicated on the Transformers series page -- so much so that they appear to be almost the same article. Perhaps we should either merge the two (along with perhaps the Transformers Comic page) or differentiate more between them. For instance, the Transformers Universe page seems to be overly focused on the Television Series relative to the comic storyline.

Perhaps the Marvel Comics relative to the Marvel Comics Universe page is a more helpful guide to give a distinction?

[edit] Article Merger

I agree with Alus. I think that there should still be a list but with each of the series having there own seperate pages so that it doesn't have to be so much information lsited but be much clearer on seperate pages. All the information on TRANSFORMER SERIES should be placed on TRANSFORMER UNIVERSES as seperate section but without the descriptions of all the various series. The only problem with doing this might generate lots of stubs though????

[edit] Merger

Given that there are separate articles for Transformers (comics) and Transformers (toyline), how about renaming Transformers series as Transformers (cartoons) and using Transformers universes as a shortened index, merging any extra info it currently contains into the other three?

Although actually looking at those articles, the toylines one only goes up to RID, and only directly includes American toylines. At the moment, the sum of content across articles (and its layout) is significantly less useful than a decent fansite or set of links. Rather than attempt to classify everything Transformers, a 'by-year' approach may be less liable to leave sections with misleading gaps.

[edit] On the Merger

Of corse, the problem in going by years that release years weren't the same in all markets. For instance, the US 1989 Micromasters were released in 1990 in Japan, but we could just use the Western release year as the orginization, and when the Japanese releases differ, for instance, in the 1990 sub-catagory, state that the 1989 micromasters were released in Japan, with a link to the 1989 sub-cat FortMax 20:0, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Organisation of index

This would be a main index page -- rather than sublink, you'd have a timeline pointing to main articles.

So, the timeline would include:

1984

'The Transformers' season one begins --> "The Transformers (animated series)" (US/Europe)

'Fight Super Robot Life' season one begins --> "The Transformers (animated series)" (Japan)

'The Transformers' first issue published --> "The Transformers (Marvel comic)" (US/Japan/Europe)

...

1987

'Transformers 2010' begins --> "The Transformers (animated series)" (Japan)

...

2005

'Galaxy Force' begins --> "Transformers: Galaxy Force (animated series)" (Japan)

'Cybertron' begins --> "Transformers: Cybertron (animated series)" (US)

'Beast Wars Returns' begins --> "Transformers: Beast Machines (animated series)" (Japan)

To my mind, that's the clearest way of making sure all content is accessible.

Denyer 08:13, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re-Organisation of index

'Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers' (both the show and the toys) weren't out in Japan until 1985, which saw the release of the '84 and '85 US releases.

[edit] SciFi Channel airing

I'm curious concerning when aired and which part of the series aired on Sci Fi as I have recently created the "Cartoon Quest" article that focuses on the block programming of animated shows in 1992-1995 that included the show in its line-up. DrWho42 01:10, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Title?

Should the title not be Transformers (series), in line with other articles and the manual of style?

[edit] Headmasters split

Headmasters definitely needs it's own article (something I've been looong meaning to do but just... never have...) but that doesn't mean that it's entry on this page needs to be taken away. - Chris McFeely 22:28, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
