Talk:List of SMS abbreviations

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This contains content moved from SMS language. So it is not strictly my malevolent creation. Rintrah 15:45, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I do not see why the page has been flagged for deletion. It does not fit any criteria under the Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information heading. It fits perfectly under the "List of" specification. I say remove the delete tag. MortimerCat 16:31, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. The article does not fit one criterion of the "Indiscriminate Collated Information" list. It can be improved with an introduction; or, if the article should be deleted, the content should not be moved back to SMS language, which seems quite a silly case. Editors of SMS language seemed to think the information sufficiently notable (and not indiscriminate) to be included in that article; I think, it should have its own page, i.e., this one, so it does not bloat SMS language.
I am removing the tag. And I suggest it not be reinserted unless reasons be put forward on this talk page. Rintrah 18:05, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Bear in mind I tagged this as Prod before this talk page said it was moved from SMS language. There was nothing (and still isn't) to give any purpose to the list. At the very least it needs a full header, with a link back to the parent subject. However, it seems little different to an article deleted recently which was just a list of words in Turkish. I can't re-prod it, but unless it improves soon I'll nominate it for AfD instead. — Tivedshambo (talk) 20:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I have hardly been involved with the compilation of abbrevations, but I still see the usefulness of them. I wrote an introduction to improve the article's standard. So there is no need to delete it now. Anyway, it does not satisfy any wikipedia criteria for deletion. If it does deserve deletion, it would deserve deletion in the main article, which is slly. There is a purpose to the list. I originally came across the article when I was trying to find out what an abbreviation meant. But I do agree, its needs tidying up, and an explanation. Why is there a "more abbreviations" section? MortimerCat 20:44, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
My guess is that one list was supposed to represent abbreviations, and the other initialisms, but initialisms got added to the first list, blurring the distinction. 03:16, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
