Talk:List of Guild Wars characters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not sure what value this content provides in Wikipedia. From a non-player's perspective, I don't see value; and from a player's perspective, the large number of available fansites provide much better coverage (a list of official fansites can be found in the Community section of GuildWars.com).
That said, if this is made into a full article within WikiPedia (as made possible per WP:FICT), then I would recommend eliminating any plot spoilers. Two that jump out at me from an initial review are Rurik and Vizier Khilbron (just listing him as a villain is a spoiler in itself). --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 18:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I am not sure what value it provides either, and as the initial nominator of the articles for deletion I clearly don't think they belong in WP. However, consensus seems to be heading towards a merge of some sort. As regards spoilers, please edit the article to remove them. I based the article and characters off the corresponding "storyline" articles on GuildWiki, and have no first hand knowledge of what is spoilerific. Kaustuv Chaudhuri 18:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
I'll look closer at it later tonight, and see what I can come up with for it. I'm actually impressed at what you've managed to compile for not having first-hand knowledge of the game. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 19:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks in advance. It's not really hard to summarise material from GuildWiki, so please do not be too impressed. Some of these characters may actually be too minor for the list, and I might have missed a few characters. Moreover, I am unsure what to make of Xunlai Agent and all the other henchmen (Aeson, Alesia, Aurora, Brutus, Chiyo, Claude, Dunham, Emi, Erys Vasburg, Headmaster Vhang, Jamei, Kai Ying, Kisai, Lina, Little Thom, Lukas Vasburg, Mai, Panaku, Professor Gai, Redemptor Karl, Reyna, Seaguard Eli, Seaguard Gita, Seaguard Hala, Sheena, Sister Tai, Stefan, Su, Taya, Yuun, Zho). Most of them seem to have bit parts in the storyline. Kaustuv Chaudhuri 22:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
I've made a few adjustments to the first section. I'll work on additional changes this weekend. For now, I've merged the villain section in with the Major Characters section, as the villains are major characters in the storyline. The player first encounter the villains, they are at that stage in the story allies - I was concerned that the section header itself was a big spoiler. Also, one of the villains is initially introduced under two names - one as an ally, and the other (mostly disguised in another outfit) as the primary villain. So I'm not sure if I should list the two seperately here. Suggestions? --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 03:54, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I was actually going to suggest that the villains sections be nixed (edit conflict on this talk page), but I see that you've already done it! Kaustuv Chaudhuri 04:07, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

The page and the content looks good, however much its existence seems pointless to me. You should probably leave the henchmen you list above out of the list, they really are only bots who only contribute to the story by assisting the player. While some of them have a role in quests, those quests are not of particular note to the story. If you'd like to have them included, a list such as the one for Heroes of Cantha may be suitable in the minor characters section of the game from which they come. Definitely don't list the Xunlai Agents. I have moved Lo Sha, Talon and Suun to be minor characters for Factions they really aren't on the same level of importance as the others listed. --Aspectacle 23:26, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] dhuum thing

i'm sick of this coming up everywhere. the stuff about dhuum being the influence behind the said stuff is purely speculation- almost fan-fiction- and should not keep getting added. removing it.

[edit] Rurik

I believe that Rurik chose to leave, rather than being banished (I love watching cut-scenes, so), because of diagreements with his father on how to handle the Charr. I think that should be changed. Disinclination 02:46, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, he wanted to leave. To abandon Ascalon. He and Adelbern had an arguement over this which ended in Adelburn basically saying "fine then; leave and don't ever come back - you're not my son, your're banished". It should stay as it is. --Aspectacle 03:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I think it went along the lines of Rurik calling Adelbern's actions as foolish to which he replied "You dare call your king a fool?! I banish you from the Kingdom of Ascalon! You are no longer my prince and you are no longer my son!" - so he banishes and disowns him at the same time :P - although yes it was Rurik's wish to leave although he had hoped his father would join him. -- Rambutaan 04:08, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] dhuum again

ick, someone re-added a re-written thing about dhuum again... it's not even presumed, it's thought by, like, two people. removing it once again.

[edit] Varesh

Why is varesh added under Hero? It is made clear at the beginning of the game she is evil.

  • Indeed that is true. I've re-organised the section to now have the Heroes of Elona (the 14 heroes that are available for a player), the Major Characters (Warmarshal Varesh was moved to here) and Minor Characters. I've only made a start on the Heroes of Elona and a couple are missing, but please feel free to flesh out the descriptions :). --Rambutaan 00:09, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
