Does the Chancellor have a fixed term of office ? How often are elections to appoint a new Chancellor held ?

I notice on the list that almost all the chancellors seem to come from the FDP? I can't imagine this is purely by chance so I was wondering if someone could explain this? --CTerry 20:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
