Talk:List of Dish Network channels

[edit] Station logos
I've removed the logos from this page, since they are all (as far as I can tell) fair use, and don't meet our fair use criteria, specifically #8 which says "The material must contribute significantly to the article"... that is, text alone should be sufficient to fully describe each channel. See Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Archive 7#Logos, resolved for a similar instance where a list of logos was removed. --Interiot 01:17, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Why does this exist?
Why is this article here? It's a clear violation of WP:NOT:
Wikipedia is not a directory of everything that exists or has existed. Wikipedia articles are not: ... Directories, directory entries, TV/Radio Guides, or a resource for conducting business. ... Wikipedia is not the yellow pages. See Yellowikis for a project with that goal. | ||
.
I will nominate this article for deletion. /Blaxthos 10:02, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have similar things in my userspace (eg. User:Interiot/Watchlists/110 Congress elections). But yeah, I think this might be useful, but it should be userfied or transwikied. --Interiot 14:08, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- This isn't a TV or Radio guide, it doesn't have the station channels and times. It's just a list of stations and channels. Shouldn't be deleted...—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.212.4.137 (talk • contribs) 18:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
It is surely a directory, and clearly not encyclopaedic. /Blaxthos 06:47, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- I would argue conversely -- that is is encyclopaedic (in that it only provides an indication of what channels are available), and, as I've mentioned in the corresponding DirecTV article, the information was previously contained within the Dish Network article, but was broken out once it made the initial article long and unwieldy. If it included full-fledged channel listings, I would agree with you, but with a singular list (not unlike the canonical list of airlines or perhaps the list of television DMAs) of channels, this does not violate WP:NOT. --Mhking 14:52, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Looking at the page, the Shopping channel section is not of value, but it is a good source of what domestic and world TV signals were available back in 2006 in the USA.
New technology or changes in politics may make DBS service obsolete, it is memorialized what was provided. Someone interested in making a choice to get DBS service would go to the commercial web site of the provider, to see current packages and pricing, something Wiki shouldn't duplicate, and doesn't on this page.
