Talk:List of Canadian railways

I believe you will find that Algoma Central Railway Inc still exists. See Federal government authority for railways here:

While helpful, particularly for articles not yet created (red links), adding the various URL's to such railways, and comments about being subsidiaries, or other ownership appears messy and is starting to make this page less readable. I might start creating stub articles to place this information in. Plasma east 18:13, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I really don't see anything wrong with this page the way it is. The additional information re subsidiaries etc. is most useful. The links to corporate web site may be un-necessary to some extent.

I'm with RL on this one - practically the only useful thing about a list as opposed to a category is that can include things that haven't been created yet. Fawcett5 04:28, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Another advantage is that often articles should be merged, for instance when a railroad company is renamed or reorganized. The list can include both names, while the category is stuck with only the new name. --SPUI (talk) 04:35, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I tend to agree that the page is more or less fine as it is. One small problem with the page (that I just noticed, actually) is that it doesn't seem to make a distinction between railways and railway companies (note also R.L.Kennedy's first comment). I'll see if I can fix this shortly. JYolkowski 14:14, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- I just did. Please let me know if you have any comments. JYolkowski // talk 15:36, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- I didn't mean any offense with my previous comments re. adding the links etc. In retrospect I think it was more a formatting problem than anything content-related. Now that we have the table created, I added some links for the holding companies, where the names of actual operating companies are unknown - these links should be replaced when anyone does find more information on the actual operating companies.Plasma east 14:08, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
